As a receipient of the Chicago Athenaeum’s Good Design
Award, Austrian born Michael Neumayr of Los Angeles-based
Neumayr Design joined the elite ranks of the world’s top
product designers like Charles & Ray Eames, and Philippe
Starck, Harry Bartoia etc. As part of this honor, Neumayr’s
Stresemann CO 05 bar stool will be introduced into the
permanent collection of the Chicago Athenaeum Museum
of Architecture and Design in Summer 2009.
Now Michael Neumayr was honored with another prestigious
design award, the DDC Award “Gute Gestaltung” (Good
Design), awarded by the “DDC- Deutscher Designer
Club” (German Designers Club) for the “Stresemann
CO 05” bar stool he designed as part of his new 23-item
Stresemann furniture collection for German furniture
manufacturer Atelier Schneeweiss, of Hiller Gruppe.
Neumayr’s Stresemann collection is defined by its unique
construction and design method. All joints are connected
using a push fit design which renders structural screw joints
or welding obsolete. Neumayr’s ecologically-minded
production method significantly reduces the amount of
energy needed for production and allows segregation
of materials at the end of the product’s life cycle. And
while the engineering and design principals are environmentally
friendly and technologically innovative, it’s the unique,
sleek modern look that has been turning heads in the design
world since ORGATECH.
Sure to become staple of classic modern furniture design,
the Stresemann collection includes the lounge chair and
footstool, the light lounge, rocking and swing lounge chairs
as well as the conference chair, cantilevered and sled base
chairs and the first of its kind cantilevered airport bench –
which allow each person to individually sway on their seat
without effecting the other occupants of the airport bench.
The clean, modern lines and innovative design of Neumayr’s
Stresemann collection have established this talented product
designer among the world’s newest ranks of creative design
visionaries.
“The Chicago Athenaeum’s GOOD DESIGN program” recognizes
and awards the ideals of a design process that embodies
product excellence and endurance and strong public
identity and I am honored to have my work recognized based
on these high standards,” said Neumayr from his Los Angeles
studios in that city’s Silverlake district.
